Kai's Plato @ Encorp Strand, Kota Damansara

Kai's Plato @ Encorp Strand, Kota Damansara

Wanted to eat seafood but not the usual cooking method? Kai's Plato will definitely be the right place for seafood lover. At here, you can taste the most original and natural taste of seafood. Kai's Plato is a newly opened restaurant in Encorp Strand, Kota Damansara since February.

Don't like to eat seafood? This is also a suitable place for wine lover because they also serve different kind of wine and white wine. I am not going to give comment on the wine because I'm not an expert in this. They also have wine buffet @ RM25++ from 7PM - 9PM Monday to Friday.

I think this is SEAFOOD in different languages.

The decoration of the wall is very special too. The wall is decorated with seashells with messages left by customers and also the photos of customers taken with Polaroid.

Of course, I also requested some from the boss after meal to have fun and leave my BIG NAME on the seashells haha. (Ignore my poor handwriting)

At here, you don't need to headache on what to eat because the menu here is very simple. Just SEAFOOD. Well, maybe what you have to think is just the portion and the sides orders. They do serve lunch set on weekdays. If you want to eat seafood platter during weekdays lunch time, you might need to reserve in advance. While on weekend, they will be serving seafood platter throughout the whole day. However you are still encouraged to make booking in advance to avoid disappointment. For my case, I tried to reserve for a table on Saturday 7PM, but it was fully booked. Luckily they still manage to get me a table after 9PM.

Sailor Platter (2 person) comes with 1 layer of seafood and 1 layer of soup.
Captain Platter (4 person) comes with 2 layers of seafood and 1 layer of soup.
Kai's Jumbo Platter (6 person) comes with 3 layers of seafood and 1 layer of soup.

They serve platters for 2, 4 and 6 person. The ingredients for set of 2 person is different from 4 and 6 person. So it's better to come in a bigger group so you can try more variety. Else you can have extra add on.

Kai's Chilled Baby Octopus RM5.90
Actually it just tasted like normal Japanese restaurant's Chuka Idako.

House Pouring Wine
Good news for those who celebrating birthday here. If your birthday falls within before and after 3 days when dining then you will get a bottle of selected house pouring wine for free.

The dining concept here is: no spoon and bowl except a pair of tongs to take out the seafood from the hot steamer and fork to help in eating certain seafood. All the food are just placed on a big sheet of paper on the table. No worry, of course a new and clean one. The purpose is want us to leave our handphone aside and just enjoy the meal.

Kai's Jumbo Platter RM350
6 person of us ordered a Kai's Jumbo Platter. So it comes with 3 layers of seafood and 1 layer of soup. The boss also tells us a very simple dining rule. We must finish the first layer before going to second layer. (Maybe the seafood at the bottom need longer time to cook, so don't want the steam inside to be released.)

Chef's Special Sauce
The sauce tasted spicy and sour, with the smell of coriander leaves. Actually its taste is quite close to Thai's chili sauce. (Not the normal bottled Thai's chili sauce)

Let's go to first layer.

The first layer has baby octopus, 6 scallops, 6 baby abalone and around 16-18 tiger prawns. The baby abalone is very chewy and still juicy inside. The scallops are very fresh, and the size is quite big too. The tiger prawns have different sizes, around 6-7 are medium big size, while the rest are smaller. The prawns is very fresh, chewy and sweet. What I can say is all the seafood are very fresh and don't need any complicated seasoning, maybe just some herbs, garlic and ginger. You can dip with the sauce or just eat it without any dipping and still tastes perfectly fine.

After you finish the first layer, inform the staff and they will open the next layer for you. The second layer has clams, mussels and squid. The clams are seasoned with ginger. The mussels are topped with cheese (the only drawback is the cheese isn't really generous enough). While the squid is in tomato paste. Nothing much to comment, but just FRESH. I think there is no other better word than "fresh" to describe seafood.

The third layer comes with 2 mud crabs and 6 slippers lobsters. The crabs are quite big, should weight around 500-600 g each. Can be considered as medium big crabs. The claw is around half a palm size big. The flesh are very firm and sweet which mean the crabs are very fresh too because dead crabs usually won't be firm. The slipper lobster is a little bit overcooked. Maybe we are eating too slow and it's in the third layer.

Besides that, actually at the bottom of every layer, there is some cabbages steamed until very soft also edible.

The last layer is the essence of all seafood. All the juice of the seafood will drop into the soup. Inside the soup also has a few other ingredients which give the soup even more sweetness, like corn, carrot, cabbage and also enoki mushroom.

The staff will then help us to split the Angel Hair Pasta into small bowls to eat with the soup. (Ok lah, we are still using bowl and spoon to eat pasta)
The soup tasted sweet, sour, salty and little bit spicy. However the soup has disappointed me, because the soup is tooooo salty. Not sure is the saltiness from the seafood above or from the soup itself.
After meal, the boss asked us about the taste personally. I would give a thumbs up :tup for such service. We told the boss about the soup, hope he will improve on this matter.

Ha, my first photo with me inside the photo for my blog for the first time. Happy birthday daddy !

Overall I think the ambiance is ok. Service is good. The seafood is very fresh. The price maybe is a little bit higher but it is definitely reasonable for the quality. Actually this dining concept is not new in Malaysia, because I heard of this before, but for Klang Valley area, this is still quite new and fresh. They also do cater for function or party up to 100 people.

All items are subject to 10% Service Charge and 6% GST.

P.S You may notice that most of the photos are quite poor because I didn't notice that I actually set my camera's ISO to 25600 T. T.
