BBQ Chicken @ Wangsa Walk Mall, Wangsa Maju

BBQ Chicken @ Wangsa Walk Mall, Wangsa Maju

Korean cuisine was growing rapidly since few years back, we could simply find a Korean restaurant in Klang Valley area. However, most of the restaurants are only serving BBQ, Dakgalbi (stir-fried chicken), steamboat and etc. Korean fried chicken is not yet so popular and common. As I know so far only a few restaurants that mainly serve Korean fried chicken.

BBQ Chicken is one of the franchise restaurant from Korea. More precisely, it's a Korean and Western fusion cuisine restaurant. BBQ Chicken has outlets in 59 countries worldwide, and had opened 17 outlets over the whole Malaysia, and still coming.

This restaurant is located at Wangsa Walk Mall, Wangsa Maju. However it's not inside the mall, but located outside of the mall, facing parking lots. It's not easy to spot because it does not have a big and obvious signboard. You can choose to dine indoor with air-conditioner, or outdoor to enjoy your meal with natural air (well, I think is second-hand smoke is more appropriate). So I chose to dine indoor.

This restaurant serves original fried chicken, sauced fried chicken, grilled chicken, rice, pasta, pizza, burgers and etc. All the fried chicken are fried using only olive oil, so if really want to eat fried chicken, perhaps this will be the healthier choice. Due to limited capacity of stomach, of course only order their signature dishes, and try to avoid main dishes. Next round, perhaps.

Hot Hot Drums 2pcs (RM16.50)
Hot Hot Drums is one of their signature dish. It's stating that the recipe is authentically from Korea. It's spicy, with a little sweet taste to brings the taste to perfection. The chicken is still crispy even coated with sauce. It's a little bit overpriced though.

Gangjeong Chicken 6pcs (RM16.50)
Ganjeong Chicken is also another signature dish here and also a spicy one. Unlike the Hot Hot Drums, it's not a whole chicken part, but it's cut into smaller parts. The batter also different from the Hot Hot Drums. It's not as crispy as Hot Hot Drums. It's also a spicy fried chicken, so what's the difference? For me, I think that the taste is closer to Malaysian's style with the cili padi added in. The spiciness is almost the same though.

Jerk BBQ (Ala Carte) (RM13.90)
Besides fried chicken, of course didn't forget to try their signature grilled chicken. Jerk BBQ Ala Carte @ RM13.90 is served with fries only. If go for set RM19.90, will be served with rice of the day, fresh salad, and fries. Jerk BBQ is the whole chicken leg marinated in Jamaican Jerk Sauce and grilled to perfection, then coated with another layer of Jamaican Jerk Sauce to give juicier taste. The chicken is perfectly grilled, and still juicy inside. The chicken also pre-deboned for the convenience of customers, how considerate is it?

Spoon Pizza (Sous-Vide Chicken)  (RM28.50)
This is also another signature of the restaurant. Unlike normal pizza, we just spoon the pizza with a spoon, as the name mentioned. It's topped with very simple ingredients, chicken breast, fries(seriously??) and  mozzarella cheese. Unlike normal pizza, it doesn't have any sauce base, causing it to be too dry. The texture of the dough is fluffy like a pancake, and also the taste, the sweet one. Well, it's a kinda weird combination, for me at least. I'm quite disappointed with this dish.

Overall the taste are quite nice, but the fried chicken is kinda overpriced. The pizza is disappointing.
