辣妹子 LaMeiZi Steamboat @ Setapak

LaMeiZi Steamboat 辣妹子 is another newly opened steamboat restaurant in Setapak area. The main branch is at Penang, second branch at Ipoh, and this is the third branch. If you are craving for steamboat in the midnight, no worry as this restaurant operates until 5am in the midnight.

Old Duck Soup 老鸭汤 (RM11.50)

From the name LaMeiZi, we must have known that the signature soup must be something HOT & SPICY. Spicy soup (麻辣) definitely is the signature soup of this restaurant but I can't eat too spicy food so I just ignore it and asking for other signature soup (My friend tried it and claim that it's very spicy, so for those who enjoy spicy, go and try it ). The soup served here are quite different from ordinary steamboat restaurants. They have lotus pork ribs soup (莲子排骨), herbal black chicken soup (药材乌鸡), old duck soup,  tomyum soup, chicken soup, pork knuckle soup, spicy beef soup (水煮牛肉), mushroom chicken soup, and fish steamboat with the whole fish inside (RM38). Each soup has different price, and we chose Old Duck Soup (老鸭汤) . The soup tastes a little bit sourish, because it's added with tomatoes and plums. You can choose 2 kinds of soup, but will be charged for the same price for each soup. So we only choose one soup because there is only 3 of us.

They don't serve many types of sauces though. I requested for a plate of sweet sauce because I always like to eat steamboat by dipping into sweet sauce + chili. If you like spicy, you can try their homemade green chili.

Appetizer, Braised Peanuts (RM2.00)

We were served with a plate of braised peanuts as appetizer. I thought it's free so just take it. Nothing special, just canned braised peanuts. If you don't want it, just inform the staff.

You can choose to order set or ala carte. We 3 people ordered a set for 3-4pax @ RM38. The set comes with prawns, squid, fish slices, jellyfish, pork slices, fish balls, fish paste, pork balls, quail eggs, crabsticks, sausages, seafood tofu, tofu, fuzuk, some mushrooms, vegetables, rice, noodles, eggs, and my favorite Minced Pork Paste.

As mentioned in the previous steamboat blog, how can we miss out meat slices when eating steamboat? It's a MUST-EAT dish in steamboat. The mutton slices have little lamb smell which is what I like in lamb slices. The pork slices are too fat for my liking. I personally prefer pork slices with 80-90% lean meat for steamboat because the texture of the fat is quite tough for steamboat.

Minced Pork Paste (RM5.00)

The Minced Pork Paste is too nice, so we ordered another one. The friendly staff will help you to mix the egg and the minced meat and make it into meatball. The texture is really nice. 

Ala Carte Menu

The choices ranging from seafood, meat, fish balls, vegetables, noodles and some other steamboat ingredients. They also do serve fried items. 

The restaurant is air-conditioned. It's quite cozy to eat steamboat in air-conditioned restaurant. However the spaces are quite limited.

Recommended dishes: Minced Pork Paste

P.S The food ordered above are enough for 4 persons. It's too full for 3 of us.
P.S The staffs are very friendly. This is definitely a bonus for dining experience.

Tips: Many people are eating steamboat wrong way if served with a bowl of rice. The bowl of rice should be added into the pot at the end of meal. So the rice can absorb all the essence of the soup.
